Justin Childers is doing a book giveaway over at his blog CROSS-eyed. What prompted the giveaway was a question one of his church members, who is about to leave for Russia, asked him:
If you only had five non-scholarly/non-commentary books with you during the next three years what would you choose?”
So Justin decided to give his list and then wrote a post asking other people to give theirs. He will award the person who he and others deem to have the best list with a new book called Why We Love The Church. It is assumed you would have an ESV Study Bible and all of Piper’s books online. My list is below, I encourage you to participate as well.
1. Edwards Resolutions: They are short and challenging and remind me to live with urgency and might while I do live.
2. Lectures To My Students: I love Spurgeon and could not imagine being away from him for 3 years!
3. The Reason For God: Tim Keller loaded that book with some of the most applicable argumentation for the Christian faith, it would prove quite useful.
4. Grudem’s Systematic Theology: I am not sure this book qualifies for the giveaway, but I would have to take it!
5. The Lord of the RIngs (The Return of the King): Fiction has a way of kindling hope. Despite the fact that Christ is not mentioned in the book, everyone longs for a King to return and set all things right!
6. If Grudem did not qualify, Mere Christianity would have to go with me. Lewis cannot be left behind!
